A Free On-Page SEO Checklist To Boost Your Google Rankings

There's a lot of moving pieces when it comes to ranking highly on Google, but on-page SEO is one of the MOST important.

In simple terms, on-page SEO is just about making your web page impressive and easy to use for both humans and robots.

So how do you do it? By using this checklist!

We've broken it down into 3 key areas: Design, Content and Technical.

If your page passes each of these items, you’ll be looking good. So let’s get stuck in!

Sales Copy

Problem — Describes the reader’s problems, goals and to make them feel understood.

Solution — Describes your solution and its benefits to get readers excited.

Process — Explains how your solution works to make it easy to understand.

Credibility — Uses logos or credibility to build trust and authority. 

UVP — Explains why it’s better/different and the best solution for the reader.

Speed & Ease — Shows how quickly and easily readers can get results.

Call To Action — Tells readers what to do and what will happen next.

Scarcity/Urgency — Gives a reason for the reader to act now. 

Design

Layout — Content is well laid out and easy to digest/skim.

Design — Design is modern, clean and impressive.

Images — Images are relevant, engaging and ideally real (vs stock).

Mobile — Works great on mobile devices.

Form — Only asks for critical info/not too much (if applicable).

Buttons — Buttons and CTAs use a contrasting colour that stands out

Social Share — Social share image is added.

Content

Page Title — Has target keyword, is descriptive and under 55 characters.

Page Description — Has target keyword, is compelling and under 155 characters.

Headings — Only 1 H1 tag used, headings follow a logical structure.

Content Score — Has a content score (we use MarketMuse for this).

FAQ — Has an FAQ section that addresses customer questions (use MarketMuse again for ideas, this is a great place to increase content score)

Technical

On Page Score — On Page SEO score is above 75/100 on SE Ranking.

Image Compression — Images are compressed or using WebP.

Image Alt Tags — Alt tags have been added.

Speed — Page loads as fast as possible (speed index under 2 seconds)

Incoming Links — The page has at least 2 incoming internal links.

Outgoing Links — There are at least 2 links to other pages on your website.
